The veins around your rectum may become enlarged from the pressure of your baby and straining when having bowel movements. Hemorrhoids are often painful, may increase in severity and begin to bleed if constipation occurs. To relieve your discomfort, try some of the following remedies:
Avoid constipation by increasing fluid intake.
Eat high fiber foods.
Avoid standing for long periods of time.
Avoid moderate to heavy lifting.
Put your feet up throughout the day.
Warm sitz baths
Ice pack
Clothe soaked in witch hazel
Exercise regularly.
Over the counter stool softeners such as Colace or Surfak and Metamucil may be added to your daily intake to increase fiber.
Be sure to check with your health care team for their recommendations, if no improvement occurs.
