Once you have made the decision to become pregnant, it is never too early to begin planning for a happy and healthy pregnancy.  Here are some things you can do before becoming pregnant to make things go more smoothly:




_____  Have a preconception check up. This includes finding a practitioner before you get pregnant.


_____  Review any medications you are currently taking with your doctor.


_____  Discuss your diet and exercise routines with your doctor.


_____  Stop smoking as soon as you can.


_____  Stop any recreational or illicit drug use.


_____  Start taking a prental vitamin.  Make sure it contains the recommended amount of folic acid.


_____  Research your health insurance options and what they do and don't cover.


_____  Speak with your partner about using birth control until you're ready to conceive.


_____  Have your partner join you in a healthier lifestyle including diet and exercise.


_____  Learn about the conception process.


_____  Become aware of families you know and their lives.
