Back pain is fairly common during pregnancy. However, it should still be addressed as soon as possible. Back pain during pregnancy can cause a variety of difficulties. In addition to the pain itself, it can cause you to miss time from work, make your delivery more difficult, and even cause problems after delivery.
There are a variety of changes that your body goes through during pregnancy that can cause back pain. Some of the causes can include:
- Pregnancy weight gain.
- A change in your center of gravity, causing muscular imbalances. This creates strain on weight-bearing structures in the body, and can exacerbate existing problems such as inflexibility and muscle weakness.
- Muscle fatigue, which is common during pregnancy. This often results in poor posture.
- Hormonal surges, which can create joint laxity especially in the pelvis.
- certain activities, such as walking and running, rolling over in bed, bending forward, twisting, lifting and navigating stairs.
- Ribcage enlargement increasing rib sublaxations.
- Nerve and vascular pressure caused by your baby.
