During pregnancy, your health care provider will typically want to do a urine screening at least periodically. Urine tests during pregnancy look for a variety of things, such as sugar levels to check for gestational diabetes, bacteria to indicate that you may have a urinary tract infection, or the presence of protein. The presence of protein in your urine during pregnancy can mean a couple of different things.

There are a variety of complications that can occur during pregnancy. Some of the most serious complications that can arise involve issues with the placenta. This can take the form of placenta previa, in which the placenta can block the cervix, creating bleeding and possibly creating troubles with delivery. Even more serious than this, however, is the risk of placental abruption. Around 1% of women will experience a placental abruption.

A lot of women who have an etopic or tubal pregnancy don't know that anything is abnormal so they begin to plan for a child. There is excitement and joy that surrounds any newly expectant mother, and then an early ultrasound or abdominal pain shatters what the pregnant woman has been imagining in her mind.

For most women, the placenta forms naturally and without the knowledge of the mother at the top of the uterus. But, in some women the placenta forms at the lower half of the uterus and is called a low-lying placenta. A low lying placenta doesn't have to be a problem, and even if you start out with a low lying placenta it doesn't mean that you'll end up having complications near the middle or end of your pregnancy.
