When should we have sex after we see a LH surge?

By : Sophia Levis

Lutenizing Hormone is present at all times in a woman's urine.  The body produces a surge of Lutenizing Hormone (LH) once a follicle has adequately matured.  This surge of LH causes the follicle to burst, releasing the egg into the fallopian tube.  The moment that this happens is ovulation.

Ovulation tests check for Lutenizing hormone.  A positive result on an ovulation test indicates that the woman will probably become fertile over the next three days.  Fertility will peak at 36 hours following the LH surge.  Once the surge is detected, fertilization is most likely to occur one to three days following.  This ovulation window opens once a month, and it is during this time that a couple will likely have the most success at conception.

Therefore, you should have sex over the next 48 hours after the LH surge is detected.
