How long does it take to get pregnant?

By : Sophia Levis

There is no easy answer to the question of how long it takes to get pregnant.  There are many factors that can affect how long you take to get pregnant, including:

- medical condition.  Medicines you have taken surgeries you have had and any medicines you currently take can all affect your ability to conceive.
-  age.  After the age of 35, it is believed to be much more difficult to get pregnant.
-  lifestyle.  The stress of living itself can negatively impact your ability to get pregnant.  It is important to use effective stress management techniques when trying to conceive and at all times.
-  general health.  Physical fitness can not only help prepare you for the physical demands of pregnancy, but may increase your chances of conception.
-  reproductive health.  There are a large number of infertility issues that can delay or prevent pregnancy.
-  timing and frequency of intercourse.  All other things being equal, the timing of intercourse can be the most important factor in trying to conceive.  There are ovulation kits and many other techniques couples can use to optimize the timing of the "baby dance."

Generally, doctors consider that you should try to become pregnant for a year before they will recommend fertility testing and treatment.  If you are over 40 or exhibit any obvious abnormalities or problems, they may do so earlier.

Each pregnancy, expectant mother, and unborn child is different. Your pregnancy may not progress the same as the information found here. The information here is based on the average pregnancy. It's not meant to be a replacement for any advice your may receive from your doctor. If you have any concerns about your pregnancy, we advise you to contact your doctor.
