What types of fertility drugs can doctor's prescribe to increase my fertility?

Clomiphene, bromocriptine and human menopausal gonadotropin (hMG) are some of the most common fertility drugs for women.  Each works in its own way to help address fertility issues.

Clomiphene is taken in a pill form.  Brand names include Clomid and Serophene.  Clomid prompts the pituitary gland to make more luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH).  These hormones, in turn, stimulate the ovaries into producing and maturing a larger number of eggs.

hMG is given via an injection and directly stimulates the ovaries.  Brand names may include Pergonal, Repronex, Fertinex, Follistim, Gonal F, Novarel, Ovidrel, Pregnyl and Profasi.

Bromocriptine is used to treat women who have difficulty with fertility due to raised levels of the hormone prolactin in their bloodstream.  The brand name of Bromocriptine is Parlodel.
