The past few years have seen quite a bit of discussion about the benefits and legitimacy of chiropractic care. The chiropractor identifies spinal distortions, which are called sublaxations, and then corrects them. Some studies have even suggested a possible link between chiropractic care and fertility. While it is too early to say for certain, these preliminary tests suggest that chiropractic care can help couples who are trying to conceive.
Chiropractors would all agree that chiropractic in and of itself is not a "cure" or a treatment for infertility. Chiropractic care does, however, correct distortions in the parts of the body where the reproductive organs are located. It may well be that re-aligning these areas can sometimes lead to fertility.
This theory is based on some good-sounding science. Peristaltic motion is a term that describes muscular function controlled by our autonomous nervous system. If you look at where the uterus is, an egg has to go down the fallopian tube and is propelled via peristaltic motion. If it happens to be fertilized but there is insufficient peristaltic motion, it cannot be delivered to the uterus. In theory, if this peristaltic motion is so disturbed that it backs up and delivers uterine tissue into the abdominal cavity or onto the ovaries, it can result in endometriosis.
