How soon after a miscarriage is it safe for me to try to get pregnant again?

While you may be anxious to try to get pregnant again after you’ve had a miscarriage it really is best to wait until you are emotionally ready and your body is physically ready.  There really isn’t a magic number when it comes to how long to wait, but most doctors and midwives suggest waiting at least two or three menstrual cycles after a miscarriage to allow the uterus and endometrial lining to become healthy again.

If you are worried that you will miscarry again you should feel somewhat at ease knowing that 85% of woman who miscarry will go on to have a healthy baby the next time and 75% of woman who have two or three miscarriages will have a successful pregnancy.

Check with your doctor or midwife when trying to decide when to try and get pregnant again.  Your health practitioner may want to refer you to a specialist in maternal-fetal medicine or genetics for treatment first.  Your doctor or midwife may also have some ideas about how long you should wait until you attempt another pregnancy.
