If there’s one thing for certain, it’s that pregnancy is going to be full of ups and downs. Whether it’s the low points of morning sickness or the high points of bonding with your partner during childbirth classes, pregnancy is a time that’s just full of emotions. And you want what every expectant mother wants: to have a safe and healthy pregnancy that ends with the arrival of your bundle of joy.
Still, making sure your pregnancy is a good one takes some work. There are some specific things you can and should do if you want your pregnancy to be a truly amazing one:
- Give your baby and your body what they need. Your baby needs specific types of nutrients to grow, and your body needs specific things in order to sustain your baby during pregnancy and be ready for childbirth. Accordingly, you need to follow a balanced diet, make sure you’re getting enough Iron, Folic Acid and other important nutrients, and engage in a mild to moderate exercise program. Talk to your doctor about how to be healthy during pregnancy.
- Take time for you. During pregnancy you really have only one important job: to make sure your baby arrives happy and healthy. Everything else in your life takes a back seat to this. If you need to pull away from work or activities, do so. Focus on you and what you need, because here in a few months your life is going to be dramatically focused outward.
- Use pregnancy to learn. Sure, you should spend some time learning about labor and delivery, but the fact of the matter is that’s just a small part of what’s coming. Truth be told, your doctor could handle most of that if she had to. You need to take this time to learn about things like newborn care, and to start reading about parenting techniques, developmental milestones and other important parenting topics. Don’t neglect the labor and delivery stuff, but don’t be consumed with it either.
