Baby Shower Idea for Boy or Girl - Stork Theme

What better way to announce the throwing of a baby shower than by sending out stork invitations? Nothing says, “baby on the way” more than a picture of a stork. In keeping with the initial stork theme, the hostess can go even further by having the entire baby shower centered around a theme of this sort.

Stork-related Decorations

Using a stork theme for a baby shower is not only appropriate but gender neutral as well. A great way to bring out the stork theme is by having ceramic stork centerpieces for the middle of each table. Additionally, party favors such as stork holders with candy inside them are a nice thing for the guests to take home with them. Colors such as blue, pink and yellow can be used to decorate the room and will go nicely with all of the decorative stork features. The hostess will usually be able to find a lot of decorations hosting a stork theme as it is widely appreciated as a baby shower insignia.

Games That Incorporate the Stork Theme

The hostess may wish to choose games that have a stork theme incorporated within them or she may want to play the usual baby shower games yet have stork-related prizes be given out instead. One game that can be played at a stork baby shower is the clothespin game. When guests arrive at the shower they are each given a clothespin to stick somewhere on themselves. Anyone who says the word “stork” throughout the baby shower gets their clothespin taken away by the person who heard it uttered. At the end of the shower, all of the guests tally up their clothespins and the one with the most clothespins wins a prize.

A stork related baby shower is a wonderful way to get the mother-to-be in the mood for the new little arrival, whether boy or girl, that is on the way.

Safari Baby Shower Theme - Where the Wild Things Are

Are you starting to plan a baby shower need of unique idea? Want something a little different and non-traditional? How about trying a safari themed baby shower? Make it baby friendly by using the childhood book Where the Wild Things Are as the theme name.

Now it’s time transform your baby shower site into an African safari. Mosquito nets, binoculars and safari hats make great table decorations. To make “nametags” for your guests, write their name on an index card and attach it to a safari hat with a safety pin. Copy pictures of wild animals and maps of Africa and use to decorate walls. Buy a roll of brown paper from your local hardware and craft store and wrap it around floor lamps and outdoor posts to resemble tree trunks. You can also take strips of the same brown paper and twist them into what looks like tree branches. Attach them to the “tree trunks” by using clear tape. Cut out leaf shapes from green paper and staple them to the “tree branches.” To make your safari theme seem even more realistic, take a large cardboard box and cut the sides out to look like a Jeep. Use clear cellophane for a window shield and spray paint empty paper towel holders for the roll bars. Let your imagination run wild putting together the rest of the Jeep!

What game could be more fitting for this theme than a scavenger hunt? Make a list of the scavenger hunt items before the shower and then divide guests into two teams. Each member of the team that completes the scavenger hunt first wins an animal print notepad, pen or picture frame. Don’t forget to serve Zebra Cakes and trail mix at your shower!

Halloween Baby Shower Theme - Pumpkin Patch Shower

What is a more fitting theme for an October baby shower than pumpkins? Transform your baby shower site into a genuine pumpkin patch by using a variety of pumpkin and jack-o-lantern décor. Your local dollar and craft store will be full of fall supplies, decorations and ideas that will make your job as hostess and decorator much easier.

Use novelty pumpkin tea lights, artificial pumpkins and pumpkin luminaries to make the room positively smashing. Make your own pumpkin luminaries with tin coffee cans, a hammer and nail, tea candles and black and orange acrylic paints. Paint terra cotta planters with orange and black paint to resemble a jack-o-lantern and fill planter with orange or yellow mums. Turn your ordinary pillows and picture frames into jack-o-lanterns with ease. Shop your local craft store for orange and black felt and some fabric glue. Wrap orange felt around pillows and secure with fabric glue. Cut the jack-o-lantern’s eyes, nose and mouth out of black felt. Use fabric glue to fasten the black felt cutouts onto the orange felt. Transform framed pictures and mirrors the same way. For glittery pumpkin decorations, buy plastic pumpkins, paint with tacky glue and cover with orange and gold glitter.

Serve your guests spooktacular treats such as pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, toasted pumpkin seeds and iced pumpkin shaped cookies. For something a little heartier, make cheeseburgers with jack-o-lantern cut outs in the cheese! Have your guests go on a pumpkin hunt. Plan a scavenger hunt by writing clues and tying them to stem’s of mini pumpkins. Divide guests into two teams and give each team a trick-or-treat bag to gather the pumpkins as they go. The first team to collect all of their pumpkins wins homemade pumpkin butter with the recipe attached.

Gender Neutral Baby Shower Idea - Precious Moments Theme

When a hostess is in the planning stage in preparing for a baby shower, she may be faced with a temporary dilemma when trying to plan a party for the guest of honor who doesn’t know whether she is having a boy or a girl. One easy fix is to choose a unisex theme. One theme in particular that is good for either a boy or girl is the Precious Moments theme.

Precious Moments Decorations

There are so many options for the hostess when decorating with this type of theme in mind. From plates to invitations, Precious Moments decorations are everywhere, which is very convenient. However, although this type of theme is popular, it is very easy for the hostess to still throw a party that is highly original. Colors such as blues, purples, pinks and yellows can be used to decorate the room. A great idea with regard to decorations is to drape each table with a different color tablecloth. This really brings out the various colors and looks extremely inviting to the guest of honor and guests who walk into the room. A baby shower cake with a ceramic Precious Moments figurine is a wonderful thing to have as the mother-to-be can take home the figurine as a keepsake baby shower item after the party. Some wonderful party favor ideas may include votive candleholders or small ceramic figurines filled with candy, all with the Precious Moments motif, of course.

Games That Stay With the Precious Moments Theme

The best way to stay with the Precious Moments theme is to play some of the usual baby shower games yet award Precious Moments prizes. One fun game to play at baby showers is Baby Trivia. This game can be purchased online from a number of retailers or constructed by the hostess with a little independent research. It is a multiple choice game whereby the hostess will ask a number of questions related to pregnancy and childbirth and the guests will have to supply the answers. The guest with the most correct answers wins a Precious Moments prize, such as a photo album or stationary with that theme.

Precious Moments, although used frequently as a baby shower theme, is one which can be unique and individual for the expectant mother of a little boy or little girl.

Baby Shower Idea for Boy or Girl - Old MacDonald Theme

Baby showers are a wonderful time for the mother-to-be and guests as well. When choosing a baby shower theme, the hostess may ponder for awhile with regard to what theme would best suit a party of this type. This is especially true in the case where the expectant mother is waiting until the birth to find out if the baby will be a boy or a girl. One particular theme that is suitable for a baby shower of this type is one centered around Old MacDonald.

Decorating Old MacDonald Style

The first step in decorating “Old MacDonald style” is to send out invitations that have barnyard animals on the front of them. This gives the guests a sense as to what the theme of the shower is going to be and they can tailor their gifts toward that theme. In order to get the mom-to-be in the Old MacDonald mood as soon as she walks in, have a big straw hat ready for her to wear. On the gift table, farm animals, whether stuffed or ceramic, can be placed on the ends of the table. A baby shower sign with farm animals included on it can be hung somewhere in the room. The hostess may also wish to have barnyard animal party favors as the take home gift for each guest. The color scheme of the baby shower can be any kind of colors yet pastel colors often go nicely with a theme of this type.

Barnyard Games

There are a couple of fun games that can be played which stick with the barnyard theme. The Baby Name game is one game in particular that is a good one to try. The hostess will prepare sheets of paper with “Old MacDonald” listed vertically down the left side and include two blanks next to each letter. The guest of honor and guests will then have to think of a boy and girl name for each letter of the word Old MacDonald. After everyone has done so, the mother-to-be will call out her answers and those individuals who have the most answers in common with the mom-to-be win a prize. Another fun game is a Barnyard Word Search where the hostess will prepare a word search using only barnyard animal names and the guest with the most correct in the allotted amount of time wins.
